Con Edison and SunPower form a residential solar partnership

New York City's public sector Con Edison and solar power company SunPower have announced a partnership that will see SunPower provide homeowners with their solar systems.

As part of this partnership, Con Edison will begin this spring to provide its customers with personalized energy usage details through its Connected Homes system.

Jamie Brennan, director of demonstration projects at Con Edison, said: "Customer engagement is at the center of our Connected Homes platform, which provides our customers with more energy options and enables them to manage their own consumption."

Customers will receive personalized information about their energy use and introduce SunPower's innovative solar solutions.

Before designing and installing a SunPower solar power system for a customer, SunPower will work with the homeowner to discuss alternative financing options.

The homeowner can choose to hold the system by cash purchase or loan, or lease, which does not require upfront investment.

Howard Wenger, president of SunPower's business unit, added: "We are pleased to partner with Con Edison to make New York homeowners more accessible to solar energy through this innovative partnership. SunPower offers industry-leading solar technology. In the first twenty-five years, the technology produced 70% more energy in the same space than conventional panels, and it has excellent reliability and aesthetics."

"Combining SunPower's 30 years of experience in delivering high-performance solar solutions with Con Edison's long history of providing power to New York homeowners can help further advance the state's new energy vision."
