Siemens and CT Cosmos plan to build a 70MW solar power project

According to some local media reports, CT Cosmos, a subsidiary of Communication Towers Ltd in Nigeria, has set up a plan to build a 70MW photovoltaic power plant worth US$150 million.

The solar project will be built in the state of Plateau and has recently received planning permission from the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to enter into a PPA with Bulk Energy Purchase Nigeria. Henry Opara, chief operating officer of CT Cosmos, expects the project to last for 18 months. Once completed, the photovoltaic power plant – covering an area of about 103 hectares should provide enough clean energy to supply not only Plateau but also neighboring states.

CT is working with German engineering giant Siemens on the photovoltaic power plant. In August last year, the two sides launched the project by signing a memorandum of understanding.

The development of the power station was a private company act with no external government funding. However, energy will be sold to the federal government and returned to the grid to support the community in achieving cleaner energy.
